ST. TAMMANY PARISH    Founded in 1810, St. Tammany Parish (French: Paroisse de Saint-Tammany) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana, in the New Orleans metropolitan area.   The parish seat is Covington, and the population is estimated to be approximately 235,000.

   
TANGIPAHOA PARISH
  
Founded in 1868, Tangipahoa Parish is a parish located in the state of Louisiana to the north of New Orleans. The parish seat is Amite City, but the major city is Hammond.
 
Tangipahoa Parish population is estimated at 120,000.
 
Tangipahoa comes from an Acolapissa word meaning "ear of corn" or "those who gather corn."
 
The Hammond 'metro' area includes all of Tangipahoa Parish.
