Hammond’s Hottest Talent Singing Competition Underway

Downtown Hammond, La—The Hammond Downtown Development District has another open call for all amateur singers, 18 and older, to sign to compete in the Hammond’s Hottest Talent Singing Competition on Friday, August 6, 2010.  Round 1 of the amateur singing competition is held during the First Friday – Take It to the Tracks block parties in Downtown Hammond, and the Final Round will be held on the La Carreta stage during Hot August Night on Friday, August 20, 2010.  As long as space is available, the organization will continue to register singers for the summer-time competition until July 30, 2010.  The contestant named “Hammond’s Hottest Talent” will receive $1,000.  Anyone interested in signing up can register online at www.dddhammond.com or call (985) 542-3471.

Round 1 of the Hammond’s Hottest Talent competition kicks off the First Friday – Take It to the Tracks block party which features live music by great local bands, a classic car showcase as well as food and craft vendors.  Hammond’s Hottest Talent contestants will take the stage on North Cate Street across from Cate Street Pub at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 6. 

The two contestants that receive the most cheers at the end of the contest will become finalists and will proceed to the Final Round.  During the Final Round, each of the four finalists will perform before an audience and a panel of judges.  The judges will vote to decide the overall winner.

All contestants must be amateurs, which is defined as anyone without a recording contract, and must be available to compete on Friday, August 20.  Contestants will be allowed to sing along with a music track that they provide or to play an instrument rather than providing a music track.  However, the instrument must be played by the contestant, and no other person will be allowed on stage during performances.
