I'm excited to announce the release of my new app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad...the Official PARANORMAL GUIDE - NEW ORLEANS APP, now available at the Apple store.

Endorsed by New Orleans city officials, media and Stephen Perry of the NOMCVB, the Official PARANORMAL GUIDE - NEW ORLEANS APP spans four decades of professional ISPR parapsychological field investigations of sixty (60) properties city-wide including Plantation Country and the properties formerly owned by author Anne Rice and as lagniappe, debunks some of the most famous 'ghost legends' like Madame Lalaurie's haunted house on Royal Street, Julie the Quadroon Mistress and others.

The Official PARANORMAL GUIDE - NEW ORLEANS APP is the essential paranormal reference guide to NOLA and contains interactive maps, contact information and over 200 photos (some historical and never-before-released) as well as thoroughly researched historical data to complement the actual paranormal findings that made New Orleans famous for its ghosts and hauntings.

It's the absolute most paranormal New Orleans you can get and equals about 30 ghost tours (if that many existed) and it all fits in the palm of your hand for only $10!

I have never been addicted to a show as much as I am to Lost. There is no doubt that I'll get The Final season, blu-ray or not. Every time you rewatch an episode, you pick up something that you missed before. I hate it when the hour comes to an end because I want to see more and more. The casting is impeccable and everyone does a magnificent job. I can't wait for Tuesdays (and yes, I have a life) to see how much more will unfold. As much as I want the answers, I am sorry to see the series end.
Well, Gray’s anatomy is aGray’s anatomy. In its fifth season it is still great. The only odd thing about the fifth season is how they treated George. In this seasonhe did three things - passed the intern exam, chose the trauma specialty and got listed in the army/hit by the bus. He had to do all those things in like 20 minutes - somewhere in between the Callie's newly found sexual orientation, Sloan/Little Grey affair and Izzi's cancer. One can see why the actor wanted off the showafter the fifth season. It is a shame they Lost George. He was a great character and had a lot of potential to develop further on theshow. Unless you watched theshow only because of George you will not be disappointed with thefifth season
Unless you watched theshow only because of George you will not be disappointed with thefifth season

MEASURES RECOMMENDED TO COUNTER OIL SPILL EFFECTS

CCA Calls for Fish Hatchery and Artificial Reefs to Counter Oil Spill Effects

David Cresson tells congressional panel spill impact to be long lasting.

WASHINGTON - The Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana told a congressional subcommittee that the BP oil spill will have long-term negative effects on recreational fishing in Louisiana and that an aggressive rebuilding effort involving construction of a large fish hatchery and artificial reefs will be a first step in overcoming the damage.

CCA Louisiana Executive Director David Cresson testified to an oversight hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee's Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife regarding the oil spill's impact on recreational fishing. Cresson explained to committee members that fishing is ingrained in the culture of many Louisiana people and that CCA members have worked for 25 years to protect the state's fisheries resources. He also discussed the enormous economic impact that recreational fishing has on Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.

"I am here to tell you that many of our members believe that all that work and effort and sacrifice is in mortal jeopardy," Cresson said. "Many of our members believe that the future they were working so hard to secure, a future in which their kids and grandkids would have the same opportunity to enjoy coastal Louisiana in the same ways that they did, is threatened. Many of our members believe that the danger that faces not just Louisiana, but all of the Gulf states is beyond their ability to control, impact or influence. And they are scared. Scared and angry."

Cresson proposed a $20 million program to build artificial reefs across the Louisiana Gulf Coast. The accelerated program would be in addition to CCA's ongoing reef-building efforts, which have resulted in construction of a numbers reefs in areas stretching from Lake Pontchartrain to Calcasieu Parish. He also proposed a $50 million to $75 million program to build a fish hatchery in cooperation with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

"Before the spill, the estuaries in Louisiana were some of the richest in
the world, meaning there was no need for a hatchery system to supplement fish populations," Cresson testified. "There is no question that the oil spill will have an effect on our current fish population, and an even greater effect on the next several years of species recruitment. Very simply, oily water cannot support fish spawning. Our fish population, and therefore our economy, will be devastated without a hatchery to supplement the process."

As a nonprofit organization, CCA Louisiana depends on membership dues, STAR entry fees, donations and money raised at its chapter banquets to operate.

CCA Louisiana is the largest marine resource conservation group of its kind in the state and has been the leader in fisheries management and
conservation issues since 1983. Visit CCALouisiana.com for more

Dear friends:

As you may know, our summer camp will begin just one week after school is out. We are already preparing to host another 200 kids a day and their parents, as well as volunteers, teenage counselors, and others who will visit our campus as they do each summer.

As you know, you have made all of our successes possible. You may remember Chassidy Groover. Chassidy directed our summer camp for a number of years until last year when her career as a student at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee forced her to focus on her studies. She will be graduating in May and is headed to medical school where she will study to be a pediatrician.

Her twin brother Chad Groover — who like Chassidy, attended camp, was mentored by Upward Community Services, worked as a counselor in camp, and is now a mentor in our after school program — will be the camp director. He is currently seeking a degree at Southeastern Louisiana University, and wants to be a football coach. Chad is dedicated to helping other young students excel, and most of all he is dedicated to God. We are excited to have Chad as our Camp Director this year.

We hope that we can continue our relationship with him; as well as other children that we have been able to help throughout the years.
God has used you to make all of our successes possible, and as we look forward to yet another summer camp, we trust that you will once again make it possible for more Chads and Chassidys to be impacted by Upward Community Services.

Last year we were forced to shorten our camp to 4 weeks because of a lack of resources and funding. While we feel that we were good stewards, and also that we helped as much as possible, we also look forward to expanding our camp this year back to eight weeks.

Our faith tells us that with God anything is possible. But the method that God always chooses to use is people like yourself to make the impossible possible.

Over the past twenty years, we have defied the odds in the lives of a lot of people with your help. You've helped us to turn thousands of people back from the edge of desperation and poverty, to give them a chance to create new lives for themselves. Children who were supposed to be bad statistics are now becoming leaders and shapers of their communities. We've watched them go on to be great contributors to our community and yours.

With your help, we can continue to impact the lives of children though out the summer months.

The mission of Upward Community Services is to equip youth, restore lives, and serve individuals and families in our community.

Now, when I look at the current economic state of our country and the situations that we are all in, it is tough to believe that we can secure enough funding to stay open for eight weeks. However, when I think about the fact that with your help, we have defied the odds and overcome the impossible for twenty years now, I regain my bope and
optimism.

You've helped us beat the impossible for a lot of children who come from single parent homes and who are raised by single grandparents. You've helped us overcome the impossible in the lives of a lot of impoverished
children.

We ask once again that you join us by reaching beyond what is supposed to be; and help us to give these children swimming lessons, a safe haven; motivational speecbes; Bible lessons, character building, hot meals, field trips, and lots of love for eight weeks.

Without your contribution these children will face yet another summer without these vital things. The cost is $600 per camper for eight weeks. We are trying to fund 200 children for the entire summer. I ask that you contribute for one or more children. jf you simply cannot afford the entire cost, then any contribution you can make will be appreciated.

If you'd like, you can mail a check to the address below, or you can make a secure donation online here. Thank you in advance for making this possible.

For the seventh consecutive year, the St. Tammany West Chamber recently helped lead a four parish-wide event called “North Shore Focus,” where representatives from Livingston, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes, along with the Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association, gathered at the state Capitol to bring the north shore’s message to legislators.

Volunteers of the ten chambers that were represented served strawberry shortcake to over 200 state representatives, state senators and other visitors to the Capitol. While the huge cake always draws a crowd, our main purpose of the event is to draw legislators and their staff to hear about the growth of the north shore region, the bills being watched by our individual governmental affairs and public policy committees, and the issues at Southeastern Louisiana University.

As the north shore continues to grow and flourish, we have to ensure that the issues that most affect our area are addressed, such as our infrastructure needs and growing property taxes. These issues, among many others, will ultimately impact St. Tammany and our neighboring parishes, and the St. Tammany West Chamber will continue to act as the voice of business by working with our legislative delegation to make sure we are heard.

We are thankful for the participation from the chambers of commerce of Lacombe, Amite, Independence, Ponchatoula, Hammond, Livingston, and Bogalusa and the Alumni Association of Southeastern Louisiana University who helped make this event possible.
As the community representative for Truth 180°, an intensive outpatient substance abuse clinic serving the Florida Parishes, I can honestly say the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in helping this agency realize its business goals. Let me be more specific.
Truth 180° utilizes the networking opportunities with the Chamber to successfully build strong relationships within the business community. In addition, members of this agency team work with various Chamber committees to stay abreast of topics and issues affecting our great community. Also, being an Ambassador for the Chamber affords me the opportunity to directly meet with new business and learn firsthand of their services. It also opens the door for me to share, with them, information about the community programs offered by Truth 180°. Through these actions, I have been blessed to have developed not only long-lasting community partnerships, but life-long friendships as well.
Outlined below are more wonderful aspects of being an East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce member. I encourage you to take a few moments and review the membership opportunities; your business depends upon taking all positive steps to achieving a great outcome for you, your business, and your community. CENSUS PARTICIPATION

I took a look at St. Tammany's 2010 Census participation again this morning. We are up 3% from last week but are now a point behind the national average. This is not good.

I am sure that most of you reading this message have filled out your Census Form and returned it in the mail. However, 45% of your friends, relatives and neighbors have not filled out their forms. Please help your community by encouraging your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to answer the 10 Census questions and return the form.

If you did not get a form, you can pick one up a St. Tammany Parish Library. Please do it right away.

I continue to stress the importance of filling out your census form. If we do not get a full census count, we will not get back our fair share of the dollars we send to Washington, D.C. and Baton Rouge.

Leadership Northshore invites you to HELP BUILD THE STARC WELLNESS WALK

A short walk in the sunshine. A little exercise. A place that helps us set and reach goals. These sound simple enough for most of us. But the clients of STARC face numerous obstacles to fitness, happiness and a sense of worth and well-being.

STARC (St. Tammany Association for Retarded Citizens) assists people with mental retardation and other development disabilities in maximizing their potential through job training, daycare and treatment.

Recognizing a need for a safe place for STARC clients to enjoy the outdoors and exercise, the Knights of Columbus council 2732 in Slidell donated a small undeveloped parcel of land between its facility and the STARC facility. The clients love the small park that features a few trees and picnic tables. But the potential is there to make the park so much more for a group of people struggling against physical and developmental limitations, and facing specific health issues, including depression and obesity.

That is why Leadership Northshore's STARC Wellness Walk committee has undertaken a project that would provide a paved walking path for the clients. The path, with marked, measurable goals, would be accessible to clients able to stroll, or to roll in wheelchairs; would give them a safe, controlled environment in which to exercise, even train for the Special Olympics, so important in building self-esteem, physical fitness and a positive outlook.

We might take simple pleasures, like strolling through our neighborhood or going to the gym, for granted, but STARC clients can't. Won't you help us help them? The STARC Wellness Walk committee is now seeking donations to help pay for a paved walking path, as well as two basketball goals, path markers, picnic tables and benches and landscaping. The park project is estimated to cost approximately $20,000, with ground-breaking slated for April 2010. Be a part of the STARC Park. It's so simple to make a difference. Send a check (contact us for contribution levels) and see how your generosity can change a life.

I have just learned that the Mandeville OMV/DMV will be closing on March 1, 2010 due to state budget cuts.

This news was just released to the Mandeville DMV office today. When this location closes we will have to travel to either Hammond , Slidell , or Bogalusa to take care of our DMV related business. This could mean possibly having to take off a whole day from work just to wait in line to conduct any required DMV business.

If you would like to express your concerns regarding this matter to those who can reverse this decision please contact your state senator, call LA Dept of Public Safety & Corrections office at 225-925-6161 or visit http://www.legis.state.la.us/ to have your voice heard.

Please forward this information to anyone you know of who lives in this area who will be affected by this closing.

KEEP THE MANDEVILLE DMV OPEN
BY Tim Burns, La. State Representative

St. Tammany doesn’t ask a whole lot from state government, mainly help with its infrastructure to keep up with its growing population that adds jobs to the economy and revenues to the state. We are not the home of many state offices.

Serving in the legislature, I fully understand and appreciate the financial difficulties facing state government. Like ordinary citizens, government needs to also tighten its belt and make due with the money it has. Citizens cannot bear any additional tax increases. And, unfortunately, that means cuts to government services.

However, the last area that should be cut are the areas that directly serve citizens like the Mandeville Motor Vehicle office. These facilities raise revenues and provide direct assistance to those people obtaining and renewing their licenses. How much bureaucracy has little or no citizen interface or involvement? Cut those areas first.

If you want to comment on the closing please email deanna.albert@dps.la.gov We will be having a town hall meeting at the Mandeville Community Center next Wednesday evening at 6:30pm. The Community Center is located at 3101 East causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA, 70448.

I would also like to take this opportunity to show my support of Trilby Lenfant for Mayor of Mandeville. Trilby is someone who appreciates our city and works hard to better it for our citizens. She has served the city for many years with honesty and integrity as a member of the Council and Council Person at Large. Please support Trilby Lenfant for Mayor.

Healthcare in Tangipahoa Parish

In my line of work, I pride myself on knowing quite a bit about Tangipahoa Parish and just when I think I know all there is to know, I learn something new. This is all due to Leadership Tangipahoa, an amazing program I have the pleasure of being a part of. On the third Thursday of every month I get to meet with a great group of individuals from different professions and we learn about the qualities of Tangipahoa Parish.

Since September, every month has been an interesting adventure and when I think, how are we going to top this activity, the next month’s activity proves to be just as good or even better. January’s class was no exception to the rule as we were afforded the opportunity to learn about healthcare, one of the most controversial topics in the news today, in Tangipahoa and although we weren’t able to visit all the healthcare facilities in the parish, the three we did visit left an impression that will last a lifetime.

We started our day at Sunrise Senior Living at Live Oak Village in Hammond, LA. and what a refreshing way to start the day. I was very intrigued with the quality of care that Sunrise provides for seniors. They have truly created a new approach to senior living that emphasizes a better qualify of life. The services and care offered at Sunrise runs the gamut from assisted living to independent living and affords residents the sense of independence and the luxury of living life to the fullest.

Our next stop was North Oaks Health System where we were enthralled with Mr. Jimmy Cathey’s, CEO North Oaks, presentation on how health care has evolved from the “good ole days” to now and quality healthcare. His openness about healthcare and its reform were enlightening and very informative and his use of “Jimmisms”, Jimmy’s point of view, were fun and entertaining. He identified how healthcare, government and education are all linked together and he pointed out that healthcare as we know it today will drastically change. We also had the opportunity to tour the diagnostic center where patient privacy, comfort and convenience are a priority. Many outpatient services were relocated from the health’s system hospital campuses to this one convenient location.

The last stop of the day was at Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence, LA. Although this was not my first visit to Lallie Kemp, it had been at least 20 years since I’d been there and little did I know that I would be thoroughly impressed with the progress of this hospital. Lallie Kemp as I knew it in the past no longer exists. Presentations by the staff revealed a new energy and focus on quality patient healthcare and after touring the campus, my tainted view about healthcare at Lallie Kemp completely changed.

Healthcare is one of the most controversial and debated topics in the news today and I am glad to say that in Tangipahoa Parish we are serving our communities well on that front. North Oaks and Lallie Kemp offer a full-range of healthcare services and Sunrise Senior Living offers specialized and individualized healthcare services and they all offer quality patient care. Thank you Sunrise Senior Living, North Oaks Health System and Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center for making our day with healthcare interesting, informative and productive. Knowledge is power!

I would also like to thank North Oaks Health System for sponsoring a healthy and nutritious lunch and last but not least, a very special thank you goes out to my sponsor the Hammond Chamber for allowing me to increase my knowledge of our beautiful parish.

Dear Editor,

I have the honor of being a member of the Leadership Tangipahoa, class of 2009-2010. Our class meets once a month to discuss issues relevant to Tangipahoa Parish and its future growth and development. This month’s session was focused on Health Care issues in our parish.

Our first stop of the day was at Sunrise’s Live Oak Senior Living Center in Hammond. We were greeted by Linda Wascom. She provided us with a warm welcome, coffee, juice, and tasty treats. The center was very impressive with individual apartments, a dining hall, personal transportation services, and weekly laundry services provided to the residents. They even have their own beauty salon and spa on site. The center portrayed a senior quality of life that everyone should be so lucky to enjoy. By the end of the tour, I was ready to move in!

Next we visited the North Oaks Diagnostics Center in Hammond where we were greeted by Melanie Zaffuto and James Cathey, President and CEO of North Oaks Health Systems. Mr. Cathey provided us with an enlightened overview of North Oaks history while bridging how health care and government are connected. We then took a guided tour of the Diagnostic Center led by Melanie Zaffuto, North Oaks Spokeswomen. It was very impressive to see the center’s staff in action with all the hi-tech equipment housed at the Diagnostic Center.

North Oaks Health Systems provided us with lunch from their dining services, which was both healthy and delicious. While we enjoyed our meal, Dr. Parham Jaberi and Amalia Toledo from the Region IX, Louisiana Office of Public Health Services provided us with relevant data related to health trends for our parish and the types of services offered by the Office of Public Health.

Our final stop of the day was at Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence. We were welcomed by Connie Liuzza, the Director of Nursing. The presentation given by the staff and the tour of the hospital campus highlighted what a valuable resource it is for the residents of our parish. The medical center offers numerous clinics, medication procurement assistance, and emergency services to folks living in the surrounding region.
