About
Leadership
St. Tammany
The Program
Leadership St.
Tammany was
created in 1993
out of
recognition that
the future of
St. Tammany is
tied directly to
the quality and
voluntary
contributions of
its leadership.
The program was
organized to
develop future
leaders who have
a clear
understanding of
the total
community system
and are
committed to its
advancement.
Originally the
brainchild of
the St. Tammany
West Chamber of
Commerce,
Leadership St.
Tammany is now
an independent
organization
that has
strengthened its
program through
affiliation with
Southeastern
Louisiana
University.
Program goals
include:
|
|
Identifying
emerging
leaders
from
various
segments
of the
community
and
involving
them in
public
affairs.
|
|
|
Developing
a sense
of
community
leadership
by
helping
participants
identify
individual
leadership
styles
and
introduction
to
different
leadership
techniques.
|
|
|
Creating
an
informed
and
committed
network
of
individuals
to
utilize
as a
qualified
leadership
source
for
public
and
private
sectors
and
planning
bodies
and
commissions
in St.
Tammany.
|
|
|
Developing
participant
awareness
of
problems,
challenges
and
opportunities
in St.
Tammany
Parish
by
examining
the
major
systems
that
contribute
to
patterns
of life
in the
community.
|
|
|
Motivating,
encouraging
and
inspiring
participants
to
pursue
leadership
roles in
the St.
Tammany
community.
|
The Candidates
Leadership St.
Tammany seeks
highly motivated
emerging or
existing leaders
who live or work
in St. Tammany
Parish. The
programs
recruitment and
selection
process targets
individuals who
represent a
cross-section of
the total
community,
including a
racial, gender,
age, geographic
and occupational
mix reflective
of the
population at
large.
The selection
committee
reviews each
application
before
assembling a
class consisting
of no more than
32 participants.
Because
diversity is an
important
quality for the
program, it is
not unusual for
a participant to
apply more than
once before
being accepted.
The selection
committee will
consider those
applicants who:
|
|
Demonstrate
a
personal
and
long-term
commitment
to the
future
of St.
Tammany
Parish.
|
|
|
Have a
record
of
involvement
in
community
affairs.
|
|
|
Are
successful
in their
careers
or
vocations.
|
|
|
Show
potential
for
great
leadership. |
Who Benefits?
Everyone in the
community
benefits. St.
Tammany Parish
gains a base of
potential
leaders who have
a heightened
sense of
responsibility
and civic
concern.
Graduates refine
their leadership
skills and
enhance their
professional and
volunteer
careers for
years to come
through meeting
peers from other
sectors of
society.
Employers
benefit from the
new insights
participants
gain and the
community
contacts they
make during the
program.
