About Us
In a world of ever-increasing chaos, some people are choosing to step back and embrace the simpler things in life: a stroll through the Village Square, evenings on a porch swing, a lazy afternoon down at the creek. It’s these simple pleasures that inspired the developers of TerraBella. By building a small village around a thriving center and green space, TerraBella hopes to foster a sense of community long lost in modern times. It’s a way of life we’ve all been missing – only now we know where to find it.
Moving backward and forward at the same time. It’s a statement seemingly meant for a riddle – but in reality, it’s the philosophy of the New Urbanism movement.
This movement has us looking back at the great cities of our past and reviving what made them work. Intimate scale. A village square. Green space. These were the things that created such a strong sense of community throughout those towns. And by reintroducing them, New Urbanists hope to bring the same strengths into the present.
New Urbanism and a return to the traditional neighborhood are the motivation behind architect Steve Oubre’s village plan for TerraBella. Oubre’s vision is an answer to the promise of the North Shore – a safer and easier way of living that has been long unfulfilled by the builders of suburbia. Public spaces mingled with homes, parks, and footpaths all lined with front porches and gardens. It’s an accessible way of life that takes cars out of the equation and keeps them in back lanes and garages. And charming Southern architecture is front and center, just as it should be. And while it’s the architecture that initially catches the eye, it’s moving backward and forward that creates a better way of life for generations to come.
At TerraBella, running to the corner store is always simple. Every home is just a short walk from a bustling Village Square, so the burden of cars and traffic never gets in your way. But it’s not limited to the corner store – dining, shopping, and a school are all accessible by foot as well. And with the addition of an amphitheater and meeting house, regularly scheduled events, concerts and festivals will bring all the neighbors together to promote a sense of community throughout the village.
Just as TerraBella provides all the modern conveniences of a village square, it brings nature to your doorstep with use of natural green space. Wetland preserves make up almost half of the entire village and will remain home to countless species of birds and wildlife. Amongst the trees you’ll find miles of trails for exploring on long walks or hikes. And the lake will provide the perfect place for early morning fishing, relaxing or even an afternoon picnic.
Everything about the green space invites the residents of TerraBella to enjoy nature and make it part of their daily lives.
